Review: Black Opal Stick Foundation

After hearing multiple recommendtions for this product from artists like Sam Fine and Billy B., I went ahead and picked up a Black Opal Stick Foundation last week. Since it’s about 20 bucks cheaper than my MAC Stick Foundation and about 30 bucks cheaper than Becca, I had nothing to lose. Now that I’ve been in the makeup game for a few years, I can usually pick out my foundation color without testing it. I am astonished at how well these sticks work! Granted, it’s slightly greasy when it’s applied, but once you blend it down and apply powder, it’s perfect! I’ve always been skeptical about certain drugstore products, and Black Opal looked like it would disappoint me. I bought some of their glosses years ago and I wasn’t happy. If you’re on the search for a new foundation, definitely try these bad boys. To see the foundation live and in action, check out my Major Beauty Announcement Video, I’m wearing it all over my face!

I think the SB blog is fierce. I don’t get to read it as much as I’d like, but when I do Erin always delivers. I was a bit nervous about Black Opal products (having grown up back in the day w/ limited products for women of color). Thanks Erin for the review and the shade you mentioned–I’m going to give it a shot!

How well does it work for oliy skin? I don’t use foundation because my skin is so oily. I only use powder and even then I feel like the make up is mealting off my face. LOL. It’s probably the main reason why I’m not that into makeup.

Oooh, I’ll have to give it a try! Do you know how it compares to the stick foundation by Iman? I’m still trying to find a good stick foundation… it’s more natural than others, I find.

I completely agree! Black Opal has stepped up their game big time with the stick foundation. I love the fact that you can use it as a concealer or a full coverage foundation. Even with my combination oily/skin it doesn’t make me to oily at the end of the day as long as I blot with my pressed powder.

    BEWARE SENSITIVE SKIN PEOPLE!

I love the stick foundation in Black Walnut, but I had to stop using it as it would severely irritate my skin.

Hi, Erin! What powder did you use to set your Black Opal Creme Stick Foundation with?

I use Studio Fix, Blot Powder, MSF, Ben Nye, MUFE…Whatever is lying around! lol

I came across your blog via essence and I luv it! I use Black Opal foundation stick and Bobby Brown stick and I find Black Opal is great for full coverage. Bobby Brown gives more of a natural mid to full coverage. In my book I place Black Opal for women of color at the top of the list with the other BIG department store names!
