It astounds me to write this post today. Four years ago, I wrote my first post titled: “1:The Initator”. I wanted a website that talked about all of the latest and greatest in beauty for Black Women. Funny, beauty blogs were few and far between back then. Only 4 years ago, beauty message boards reigned. I was known as ‘lilchocolatema’ on almost every website! Ah, the memories. Months later, I realized that not only were Black Women reading my blog, but every skin color and tone, and every sex! I was a complete hair nut, nursing my limp, brittle relaxed hair back to health. I swore by Keracare Essential Oils for the Hair, and Elasta QP Mango Butter. Yeah, my blog sucked back then.
Since then, Scandalous Beauty has grown so much more than I could have ever anticipated it to. My only real dream job was to become a beauty editor at a major magazine. But after meeting so many editors and assistant editors, and hearing what really happens behind the scenes, I decided to stick with my own route. Scandalous Beauty has presented me the opportunity to meet the people that I admire most: the make-up artists. The day I got my first Youtube comment from Billy B. I screamed the “OMG I just one a billion dollars and all of my troubles are gone!” shriek. And the day I got to hang out with him at the MAC Pro store, I literally stared into his eyes and said “Is it really you?” I was in shock. The man who’s work I studied and admired since I was 15 years old was having a civilized, humble, real conversation with me. Meeting Sam Fine, and still not understanding how he chisels the heck out of these women’s faces. Having my first seminar, teaching women about makeup. Purchasing my first laptop because my “hobby” became my part time job. Starting my own message board with over 1,000 members. Dreams really do come true.
So please, use my story as a testimony. Do anything and everything you are passionate about. Let your vision flow through your actions! You may have seen the Youtube video that I created this week called “Get What’s Yours in 2010“. I’ve claimed a lot for Scandalous Beauty for 2010 and beyond. I have full faith in what God has bestowed upon me, and will continue to give it my full effort. Hopefully you’ll stick around to see what’s in our future!!! I love you ALL!!! Those who supported me, and those who criticized. You’ve all helped me grow and I thank you endlessly for that!! Looking forward to much more amazement in the years to come!
Much Love,
EJB
