Have you always wanted to wear makeup but you have no idea where to begin? No worries, welcome to Scandalous Beauty.
Makeup is something that really has no start or finish. There is no right or wrong way to try products. You can live the rest of your life wearing only mascara and it’s fine. You can just wear just lipgloss and that’s okay too. It could take a few minutes to a few months to get your dream look. Just remember, practice makes perfect!
In my opinion, if you’ve never used makeup before, I suggest starting with mascara, powder and lipgloss.
Mascara
I’m going to jump out there and say that mascara would be the first makeup item that I would recommend. It’s just a little coating to go over your eyelashes, but it makes all the difference. One coat gives you natural lashes, 2-3 goes a little more glam. Mascara on your bottom lashes also makes a world of a difference! You can wear just this, and it would be all you needed.
I started my mascara journey with Maybelline Full N’ Soft. I did this mainly because I went to a school that didn’t allow us to wear makeup. This mascara gave me just enough of what I needed. It’s still a top mascara for a reason! If you want glam eyes, this is not the one for you. Over the years, I’ve fell in love with quite a few magical versions, including MAC Zoomlash, Chanel Imitable, Flirt! Lash-A-Delic. Another outstanding bet is L’Oreal Voluminous. It gives thick, sexy lashes for a drugstore price. Everyone from real women to top celebrity makeup artists swear by it!
Powder
I recommend powder because it’s a great way to fake having a “complete” face. It will take away any shine that you might have. Please listen: if you have dry skin, stay away! This is going to make your face look drier, ashier, and wrong. I’ve heard the greatest things about Cover Girl Queen and Iman Cosmetics pressed powder. I used MAC Studio Fix powder for years. It’s a powder and foundation all in one. People either love it or hate it, so I suggest you try it at a store or counter first. Powder foundations can give more coverage than the typical pressed powder. It’s just something you have to experiment with. I currently use a loose powder by Ben Nye, the shade is Banana. I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners however. We’ll just leave that alone for now.
Lipgloss
A little shine never hurt anyone! Be it Wet ‘N Wild or YSL, gloss adds the perfect finishing touch. There isn’t enough time in the day to rundown the best glosses out there. If you want the best bang for your buck, Milani Crystal Gloss {Whisper, Innocence} and L’Oreal HIP Shine Struck Liquid Lipcolor {Reserved, Arresting}are my go to choices. If you want to shell out some money, Becca Cosmetics {Flirtini, Bellini, Caipiroska}, Stila {Brown Sugar, Praline, Vanilla} and MAC {Mad Cap, Viva Glam V, Pinkarat Lusterglass} are winners!
