Hauteblogger: The Blogger Comment Challenge

same day payday loan

While perusing one of my favorite blogs, Independent Fashion Bloggers,I found a really cool article. It proposed the idea of commenting on ‘x’ amount of blog posts. ASHEMISCHIEF’s goal was to leave 250 heartfelt comments on blog posts in one month. It’s a really smart (and considerate) way to alert the blogger that there is actually a person with a heartbeat reading their content. Sure, it’s nice if you leave a message on their facebook post or tweet them back with a reply to their blog, but leaving an actual blog comment is visible to everybody! Time and time again I find great articles that have 40 or 50 Facebook “likes”  and 2 blog comments. I understand that people may like a blog post, but not enough to comment.  I totally get it.  That’s why I’m joining this challenge!

I follow a few hundred blogs on bloglovin. And by a few hundred, I mean well over 400. Most of them are fashion, interior design, food, tech and of course beauty blogs.  It’s the fastest way for me to check in on what everyone has written, and it’s easily categorized.  Gone are the days of opening blogs individually, with 44 tabs open and a slower laptop!

If you’re going to start commenting on blogs, whether you have one or not, get a Gravatar and/or OpenID! When you fill in your email address, your gravatar image will automatically pop up.  It’s a great way to put a face/logo with your comments. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve read comment sections of blog posts and read the commenters blog just because of their profile picture!

I’m not going to set a goal of how many blogs to comment on, but I’ll definitely be sure to do it more.  I want these hard working writers that I follow to know I appreciate them enough to respond.

that’s a great challenge…i already comment on all of the blogs that i read because i know how much i appreciate comments. it’s crazy how a post can have well over 1000 hits and yet maybe 10 comments if that! people should de-lurk more :) make it a community

i really hate when other BLOGGERS don’t comment on others posts, seeing as to how they love it when people comment on theirs

What a great idea! I’m a guilty lurker, but I am going to start putting my thoughts into writing starting with this comment :)

I think that’s an awesome challenge. I got lazy for awhile (due to blog hopping on the phone) but now I make an effort to comment. I don’t want to be that snobby blogger that wants comments but can’t return the love. Right on, sis!

I was just talking with a fellow blogger the other day about this exact issue. Following blogs on your smartphone is like comment death. I use GoogleReader on Android, but posts don’t include comments, so I don’t do it as often as I would if I was on my laptop. It’s a two way street that’s all about the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I love this idea, and might join in! I can only speak for me, but with the amount of blogs I sub to, it can be a bit overwhelming, but in seems only fair that we as readers contribute something to the content.

This is a great idea. Heartfelt comments left by readers are like rewards for any blogger. It just shows that someone really do take the time to read your articles.

I think that is a great idea. My stats show me how many people have viewed a post, but I love it when I actually see a comment left by a reader.

Thank you so much for always commenting! It means a lot!

That’s a really great point B. I never thought of the smartphone issue.

Fabulous challenge and your tips are right on! Good luck meeting your commenting goal. And, yes, isn’t categorizing your blogs a wonderful thing?

Commenting is awesome! I will surely write a blog post on why I do it and its importance is 2 fold!

Thanks Erin.. This is an awesome idea.  I try to always leave comments on interesting articles as opposed to having an internal response in my head. LOL I will not however, leave comments on articles where the writer doesn’t interact with the people that leave comments.  Of course I do not expect every comment to be given a response but there should be some back and forth dialect. My comments show like you said, there is a live person reading the post and the responses from the author show me that they are interested in interacting with their readers.

Any help please?

  • Gregorie

I thought this was a great idea, but it literally down to the bottom of my to-do list because there’s so much I already do to maintain my own and contributing to two others…tx for inspiring me to try again!
