Many moons ago, I worked at Smashbox. The bay across from me was Laura Mercier. I am a bit of a fool for this, but I never really used played with the products too often. The counter manager’s name was Liz, and I remember her always selling a couple hundred dollars worth of products to people. They couldn’t get enough of Laura Mercier, a brand I couldn’t appreciate because I was so into color and loud gaudy beauty.
She told me that the foundation primer, eye kohls, loose powder and secret camouflage were the biggest sellers. If she were absent and people wanted to try some makeup, put those on them! Today, I tried the kohl pencils for the first time in years. Whoa. They might have been the silkiest pencils that I’ve ever really used, but they didn’t have the über creamy gonna-smudge-in-2-minutes feel. You don’t have to press hard to get the color to show up.
The colors are STUNNING. Black Violet, where have you been all my life? I haven’t been a pencil liner girl in quite some time, but sheesh. Seriously. You can find this set ($45) on lauramercier.com, as well as the mini set at Sephora ($35).
