My Body Isn’t as Sexy As I Thought [And What I'm Doing About It]

Grown folks told me I wouldn’t keep my shape forever. They were right.

The only time I had the washboard stomach was before I was 16, when I motivated myself to look life a swimmer to keep the boys interested. As the years went on, body parts started filling in. Now, my waist is a size 4 and my hips and butt are a 10. That’s all good if I wanted to be in rap video, but it’s time for me to tighten up. Don’t get me wrong, I love my body. I wouldn’t trade it in for anyone else’s. But, there are some things that are too loose.

I bought this pair of shoes last Fall. I found them in the back of my closet today, like that random awesome lipstick that you forgot you had. That’s a problem. Then I found this February fitness challenge from Personal Excellence blog. Can you say excited?! Here are some of the other things that I’m doing to get this body right!

Billy Blanks

Tae Bo has always done me good. It’s a little corny, but it gets the job done. I can’t find the tapes we had on VHS( don’t know why I’m looking for them, I don’t have a tape player!) but I found this at Five Below. I love the quick 5 or 10 minute workouts. I put Kim K’s DVD in this picture for no good reason.

Water

With breakfast, lunch or dinner, I’m going to get back into the H2O flow. Not only does it quench my thirst, but it cleanses and quenches.

Snacks

I’ll try to grab an apple or cucumber when I want a snack. My beloved Golden Oreos are just the catalyst to this tummy.  Maybe I’ll keep bananas on my desk instead of loading up on McDonald’s for lunch.

Pinterest

Of the 700 reasons I could give to use Pinterest, their fitness sections rock! People “pin” the things that will motivate them to getting their bodies where they want them to be. My fitness board is called “I’m Bringin’ Sexy Back!” As you follow more people, you’ll find more great resources.

    LOL–i hear you sis!  mine isn’t as sexy as I thought, either.  but, strangely enough, my boo thinks it is–funny how my SO sees my physical flaws (to me) as the very things that make me beautiful and sexy!  anyway, i now take things in moderation–enough exercise to keep me from becoming the goodyear blimp, but not enough to become obsessive; there are other things in life to concentrate on than having the “perfect” body…blessings

    This is so on point.  I’m 30-something and things are NOT like they used to be.  My stomach is my kryptonite.  The rest of me is workable.  I am getting back in the gym, this Saturday.  I did well last year, but fell off.  I have to get back on it. I know once the warm weather hits I will regret it if I don’t.

    I’m in my early 40′s and gravity is not my friend. It’s a constant battle in preventing certain body parts from going south. I am a fan of Billy Blanks. I had the chance to meet him back in 2004. His workouts DO work.

    I’m working on bringing my sexy back too lol.  Currently my arms are extremely sore from hitting the gym and I’ve been adding so many fitness youtube videos to my favorites for those days where I can’t make it to the gym.  And have you seen the infomercials for those Brazilian Butt Lift dvds?  They are getting to me lol.

    I’m going to start working my butt off as well–tomorrow in fact! I already have a pair of running shoes. We have a treadmill at home. But I still would very much prefer running outdoors, which is what I’m going to start doing again as soon as I muster the guts to…I mean, tomorrow. Haha! I keep putting it off but it’s really time to stop that now.

    WHOA….that video blew me away….

    Grown folks (mainly my mother) told me my body would not always stay as it was. I laughed when I had a child at twenty and it pretty much did.

    Then I hit 25…and I noticed a few shifts no big deal. Then this year at 26 I got my first sit down at a desk all day job. Whoa….my suddenly expanding waist blew me away.

    There is a gym in my office building and I need to use it, and stop eating like I’m 16.
