My first memory of Mary Kay was when my mom went to a party thrown at my aunt’s house. Even as a 10 year old, I couldn’t wait to use makeup. They passed around little cards with dabs of lipstick in them. I wanted to grab one, stick my pinky finger in it and smother my lips.
My next experience with Mary Kay was my freshman year of college. A girl in my dorm had a Mary Kay party, and there were so many girls there. I couldn’t believe so many 18 year olds were lining up to get makeup for old ladies! They all bought black eyeliners and neutral brown lip gloss to wear to class and to the club.
Fast forward to earlier this week. I finally pulled out my Mary Kay goodies to see what they were all about. Please keep in mind that I really thought Mary Kay was for older women, but I went to this experiment with an open mind and I’m really happy I did.
The first thing I tried was the Mary Kay® NouriShine Plus™ Lip Gloss. I was pleasantly shocked at the texture and pigment of the lip glosses. They actually feel moisturizing. Sometimes I put glosses on, and they feel like they are going to make my lips crack if I rub them together. These felt thin, but the color was really showing up.
One particular shade, Café Au Lait, was used in one of my newer videos on Youtube. I wore it with one of my most versatile neutral lipsticks. This formula rocks because it’s sheer enough to wear over a lipstick, but pigmented enough to stand on its own if it needs to.
I absolutely love palettes. The convenience that comes with bringing a few options in one convenient container is perfect! The eye shadows are teeny, but uber lovely in the Mary Kay® Compact Mini.
The major shocker for me was the mascara. Mary Kay® Lash Love™ Waterproof Mascara was a big win for me. I was on my way to church, and when Bishop tends to say thing that hit home, I can’t stop the tears. When I applied it to my lashes, it separated them really well. Really, really well. This is a big thing for me because my lashes tend to all naturally clump together. After all of my crying and happiness, I checked my mascara out. Still separated, still intact.
So, you know what I realized? Mary Kay isn’t for old ladies, and the products are actually pretty great! I wrote down the mascara in my notepad app to remind myself when I need to repurchase some of my usual choices. It’s definitely a top option!
I’m off to the website to check out Satin Hands, the product that’s recommended to me all the time. I wonder if they’re trying to drop a hint…
