Budget Beauty That Rocks: Yes To Cucumbers Soothing Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes

Yes To Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes

You know how to tell when something is really, really good?  When you get the product for free, run out of said product, then re-purchase. That’s exactly the case here. I’ve tried a bunch of makeup remover wipes. I used MAC Wipes (30 sheets/$15) for years, mainly because they were the only ones that I knew about. But they worked, and that’s what mattered. Then I found Alcone Wipes (24 individually wrapped sheets/ $11) , which are hands down the best makeup remover wipes on the planet. I cannot say enough good things about the Alcone wipes, but they are a bit too expensive for my taste.  In between all of these products, I’ve used baby wipes, which kind of get the job done.

But then, a box of Yes To Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes (30 sheets/$5.99) arrived at my door with a few other things. I used them that during several photo ops, and after many long days sporting a full face of makeup. They don’t drip with makeup remover, didn’t sting or burn, and they smell divine. I’ve had a love affair with cucumber scented products forever. They even make a set conveniently for travel (10 wipes/$2.99).

The Yes to empire is more detailed then I realized. Each scent of products works with a different issue.

  • Yes to cucumbers is for soothing/sensitive skin
  • Yes to carrots is for normal to dry skin and hair
  • Yes to tomatoes is for combination/acne prone skin
  • Yes to blueberries is for age damaged/mature skin

Great stuff! I purchased my products at Target, and these products are available at over 30,000 locations worldwide!

$3 Dupe for MAC Chestnut Lip Liner

Dupe for MAC Chestnut Lip Pencil

I happen to  have 4 MAC Chestnut lip liners in my collection. I’m a hoarder that way. Many of them are years old, replacements of lost pencils (that I later found) etc. And then, low and behold, I stumbled upon NYX lipliners. I’m almost positive I bought my first one at the beauty supply store when I was stocking up on false lashes. I’m not crazy about everything that NYX makes, but these are spot on.

Holiday 2011: Laura Mercier Khol Eye Pencil Set, Swatches and Photos

Laura Mercier Holiday Kohls Set 2011Many moons ago, I worked at Smashbox. The bay across from me was Laura Mercier. I am a bit of a fool for this, but I never really used played with the products too often. The counter manager’s name was Liz, and I remember her always selling a couple hundred dollars worth of products to people. They couldn’t get enough of Laura Mercier, a brand I couldn’t appreciate because I was so into color and loud gaudy beauty.

MAC Matchmaster Foundation: Images, Swatches, Review, Comparison Chart

Edit: This post has been edited on 1/23/15 with new images, before and after photos.

Product Description: Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15 features innovative patented pigment technology, which encapsulates micronized pigment particles in translucent spheres. The technology gives true-to-life shade perfection and unprecedented coverage while allowing the skin’s natural shade to show through. The result is a customized shade with a demi matte finish, giving skin the natural colour without looking ashy or chalky. Featuring 14 shades, Matchmaster contains the lightest and darkest shades of all M·A·C’s foundations, giving artists and consumers more versatility than ever before.

Comes in the following shades:

This range of foundations includes the lightest and darkest shades that MAC has ever made, plus some new shades in between. This is a BIG plus for MAC. When I used to work for them, there were many people I’d have to turn away because there were no shades for them. Please pay attention to the half shades toward the end of the spectrum. This is really great for us brown girls, because they’ve given us way more options. That’s almost 10 shades for us. Very nice.

MAC Matchmaster 7.5

After I applied the foundation all over, I got a much better feeling about it. While it was still a little yellow, I really like that I had such a fresh look. Normally I’d apply a powder with some red in it (see the Makeup Up For Ever powder that I’m obsessed with) to even out the look, but when I review foundations, I like to see what the product will do for me without using anything else to alter it.

MAC Matchmaster 8.0

Here’s a picture of me wearing Matchmaster foundation in 8.0 at the Oyin Handmade store. The foundation looks very natural (but very shiny–it was very hot that day), even though I did a medium-full coverage. I’m sure a mix of 7.5 and 8.0 would be a great mix. You can see that there was a big difference in my face and chest. I took the picture with natural light and no flash, but it looked as if the foundation had gotten darker throughout the day. I’m trying to take my tan into consideration, Also, my forehead is oil-slick city! This foundation wasn’t created specifically for oily skin, and I didn’t blot or apply powder throughout the day. I can’t really be mad at the situation on my nose and forehead, can I?

MAC Matchmaster 7.5

Here’s what my face looked like six hours after I applied my foundation. Since it’s Winter, I don’t get craaaazy oily.

I did like the foundation, but I own so many that I adore, so it won’t be my go-to. I’d say this is a good everyday foundation, but I don’t want to scream while jumping down in excitement over it. It is definitely an awesome concept. This entire post might change if I go to the counter to find my exact shade. If you decide to purchase, I’d definitely say to get matched professionally. Hopefully the above conversion chart will help. If you have a skin tone that’s hard to match for foundation, this may be your answer
