Mizani’s New Line for Curly Girls: True Textures

Mizani products scream ethnic luxury.  They are the preferred brand of stylists all over the world. During my relaxed days, I went through many bottles of Hydrafuse Conditioner. Heck, just last week I finished off my bottle of PuriPHying Shampoo for the excessive buildup in my hair.  I’m very happy that Mizani sees that natural curls are here to stay, not just a trend. They have created the True Textures collection. You’ll be happy to find a sulfate-free shampoo, moisturizing masque, and various styling products.

The Perfect Curl ($18) lightweight creme gel is a product that’s worth a shot.  Sadly, I had to bash many products that were made for curls, but were thick, super smelly and overpriced.  This however, is not. Just section wet hair and finger comb through. My preferred method for my teeny curls was to apply to drenched hair, then shake hair like a wet dog.  The curls would pop on their own, and then I could separate them as needed. Want more proof? I found the most awesome picture review of these products at Curls, Coils and Kinks! Makes me miss my fro, (although mine wasn’t as fabulous as hers!)

You can find Mizani products at Ulta, JCPenny Salons (along with most major chain salons inside malls) and beauty supply stores!

Throwback: Erin with Short Blonde Hair!

I’ve been through a lot with my hair. Over the past 5 years, I’ve been relaxed, natural and loc’ed. And while I love my natural hair, my relaxed hair days were a ton of fun too! The picture above is circa 2005. I used to go to the salon every week and get my hair wrapped, set and curled. I was rocking short flips in the front, in the back, anywhere!

There were some staple products that made my hair thrive during these days. I don’t think I had discovered Redken yet (which if I had, I probably would have stayed relaxed MUCH longer), but I was a Mizani/Nexxus/Miss Key freak!

Miss Key 10 en 1 is a Dominican conditioner that I used as a conditioner and deep conditioner. I swore by it. I lived for it. Anytime I go to beauty supply stores in NYC I am still tempted to pick up a jar, even though it did nothing for my natural hair. The Redken products that I wish I would have found are the “Extreme” collection. I used these on my natural hair, and they were great, but my hair was in pretty good shape at the time, so I didn’t really need it. But, as for my relaxed hair that was extremely chemically treated, dyed, blow dried, sizzled and anything else you could think of…Extreme would have been a God send!

My stylist Veronica has always done the BEST hair color and styles on me. They were always very rich in color and looked SO vicious. If you’re in the DC/MD/VA area, visit her salon, Hair On You. For all of my favorite products for relaxed hair, click the “relaxed hair” tag under this blog post to see the many product reviews I created back in the day. If you’re really bored, here is an online photo album with my relaxed hair progress!

Scandalous Has a New Look, Baby!!!

I had a new banner made last weekend, but since I loved the gray background of SB, we opted to go for a more daring, Scandalous look! I LOVE it! Bold, stylish, in your face, and sexy. The creator, Kyle, did a fantastic job. He’s a young entrepreneur working hard to make it in the graphic design world, so be sure to check out his portfolio and impressive resume at www.kocponline.com!!

Hope you enjoy the new digs! Stay tuned for reviews and stories featuring Mizani, Shu Uemura, MAC and a very special exclusive with Nars!!!

Mizani Moisturefuse, and more!

As I told you all a few weeks ago, I decided to dabble in Mizani again. It was a staple product line for me back in my relaxed days. The one thing that stood out to me the most was Moisturefuse conditioner, the creamiest, most succulent conditioner that my relaxed locks had ever felt. I tried this on my natural hair last year, and for some reason it just didn’t work out.

I used it again, and haven’t omitted it from my regimen yet. I simply cannot stop using it! I’m going to have to buy a liter of the stuff. At the moment, this is my favorite conditioner! I haven’t been able to say that for a very long time!
One product that I’d like to give a whirl is Humidity Resistant Mist . Here’s what Mizani had to say. “ Split ends and frizziness are natural enemies of healthy, vibrant hair. To combat these, MIZANI has developed HRM: Humidity Resistant Mist. This finishing spray is uniquely designed to reduce the formation of split ends and frizziness, as well protect against surface damage caused by chemical treatments. HRM contains a UV sunscreen to help protect hair from sun damage, while still providing a weightless hold.” Humidity sucks…I’m so not a fan. Especially with this natural mane of mine. I’ll let you know how it goes!!

Re-Trying Mizani

I’m going to give Mizani haircare another shot. My former stylist used Mizani, and only Mizani, to nurse my hair back to health after a terrible chemical burn from a relaxer. I went to him every two weeks, and my roller wraps would be SO fierce. I really forgot about that hair, ah to be fourteen again. Well no, not really.

Anyway, here are the products that I am going to try.
Botanifying Conditioning Shampoo
Moisturefuse Moisturizing Conditioner
Spradiance High Gloss Serum

I’ll Give you the scoop in April, during the Scandalous Beauty Hair Event!!! Do you use Mizani products?? Which are your favorites? Lemme know!
