There are only a few companies that I believe to have stellar quality of makeup. One of these companies is Shu Uemura. There is only one location that I have seen Shu in the D/M/V, which is Pentagon City. Essence Online: Eyebrows, Eyelashes, Lids and More

Finally, Essence has put out a gorgeous collection of makeup looks!! The first look is soft and Springy. Of course, the embellished flower petals are added for effect, but the rest of the look is simply beautiful, and PERFECT for an everyday look! The lip is really, really drawing me in. Reminds me of one of my favorite girly lip combinations, MAC Sweetie lipstick with Clear Lipglass right on top. I actually feature this on one of my newest videos, guide to MAC lipsticks. If lipstick isn’t your thing, you can go after the billions of pink glosses on the market!! A few that I keep in my makeup bag are Becca Glossy Lip Tint in Flirtini or Kissable Couture lip gloss in Johnny. Seriously, I never leave the house without them. Also, can’t forget the gorgeous pink blush, one of the few things that we as Women of Color run the farthest from!! Well, at least in my opinion. MAC Dollymix blush, anyone?? These lashes are infectious, large, wispy and LOUD!! Make Up For Ever and Shu Uemura are the perfect companies to refer to!!!

On the picture to the left, the all around nude look is captured. This lid looks exactly like the new Nars Eye Shadow Duo in Portobello. I love, love, love it!! When I wear it, I apply it over Painterly Paint Pot by MAC. This way, you can retain the light color of the shadow, versus the shade getting darker over a darker color base. Wearing a nude eye really gives you the option to do much more with your cheeks and lips. In this picture, the lips are reminiscent of Innocence lip gloss by Kissable Couture.

Post #200! Featuring….Billy B!

Can you believe the 200th post has arrived!?!?

I’m so sorry for being out of whack lately. I’m hesitant and trying to be on my P’s and Q’s…I’ve been filling out my internship applications for Summer 2008, and I’m soooo nervous!!! God has blessed me in a plethora of ways..but can y’all imagine me working in Essence‘ office under Ms. Tasha Turner and Ms. Pamela Edwards?!?! That would be the biggest accomplishment ever!!! *Feeling all Giddy Inside*

Anywho, I’ve been working on some video tutorials for us. I can’t upload them to YouTube without a fight, but I’m going to figure it out.

So, for this occasion, I’ve decided to tell you about my bout with Uncle Billy…Billy B. that is!!!


I know that I don’t have to tell you how much I love Billy B. The man is bad. I went to a seminar that he had for The American Beauty Tour, sponsored by The Powder Group.
I’d been working on a video tutorial to showcase the smoky eye that he taught us, but it appears that I’m not

Here are some tips:
-Billy loves Black Opal Foundation, the ones in drugstores!
-Also loves Face Atelier foundation, gives a beautiful finish
-Loves M.A.C. Smolder Eye Kohl
-Loves L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara, it’s an old faithful
-Usually does brows last
-Ardell lashes in 110, 21, 53 and 45 are staple items..yep, the ones in drugstores! (I’m not sure, but I’m assuming this means mega stars Bey and and MJB are wearing these lashes?!? Billy had us thinking they were in some $50 Shu Uemura’s!)
-As an easy way to apply eyelashes, use the glue and apply it the same way you would a liquid liner, then stick the lashes right over it. GENIUS.
-Keep your eyes out, he’s coming out with a reality television show AND a book!!!! Yaaaaaaaay!!!

I also got a set of Billy’s brushes. Oh my goodness. These brushes are love. Why do I feel like my old ones are from the dollar store? It’s been over 2 weeks since I’ve had the brushes, and I use them everyday. Every single day. I did a photo shoot the other day, and I used the brushes there too. I’m not throwing my MAC brushes out, but they definitely have competition!

-Brush no. 1 is the traditional foundation brush, and instead of pushing your foundation around, it spreads it evenly and thoroughly

-I’ve been using brush no. 8 to apply my eye shadow, and when I want a precise crease, I wipe off the excess and put it there too

-Billy literally paints mascara on bottom lashes with the no.9 brush..so ingenious

Not only was I there, but so was The Makeup Girl!!!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2007!

The Sexy Lash Edition

Yep, I refer to Billy B. alot! He is such a great source for all of my beauty topics du jour! One thing I love to find and add to my collection is eye lashes. Wearing lashes can take a look to new heights. And almost no two lashes are alike, they are of different lenghts, colors, styles, etc. I own about 30 pairs of lashes as we speak! I’ll be real, I suck at putting my lashes on. But, it takes practice!!! By the 2nd or 3rd attempt, they are on good and tight. (Oh, by the way, Bey is wearing falsies on the top and bottom lashes!)

I found some uber fabulous lashes from Shu Uemura at their booth at The Makeup Show.
Shu Lashes are some of the best quality out there. Not only are the lashes super durable, they are very unique.

Very unique. And $50.


Makeup Forever has a superb collection of lashes. On the Sephora site, there are just a few to see, but check out the lash page on the MUFE site to see all the lashes they have to offer. They have over 50 pair!!!


And here’s my favorite pair, the 7 lashes by MAC.

Here’s a picture of me wearing them! These are the lashes that I wear when I want to go the extra step without really wanting to be noticed. They are just little whisps at the end of my lashes.

And when I want some more action than that, and I really want to show off my almond shaped eyes, I go with the number 2 lashes. These are longer all over with thinner strands, and larger whisps.
